Mimatory

An encrypted password manager that lives on your Mac, fills your browser, and syncs through storage you already own.

Everything you keep, in one place

Logins, cards, keys and notes, in an app built to Apple’s design guidelines so it feels at home on your Mac.

Encrypted local vault

Items live in SQLite on your Mac, encrypted with AES-256-GCM. The key comes from your master password through Argon2 and stays in memory only while the vault is unlocked.

17 item types

Logins, secure notes, cards, identities, passports, SSH keys, bank accounts, Wi-Fi, servers, databases, API credentials and more — each with the right fields ready.

Vaults, tags and favorites

Keep work and personal apart in separate vaults. Tag items, mark favorites, archive what you don’t need and restore from the Trash.

One-time passwords

Keep 2FA secrets next to the login and copy the current code. Copy a QR code image and paste it to add one.

Watchtower

Finds weak, reused and incomplete logins on your Mac, and checks passwords against Have I Been Pwned without ever sending them.

Touch ID

Unlock with your fingerprint on a Mac with Touch ID, or type your master password.

Import from 1Password

Export a .1pux file from 1Password and open it with File ▸ Import. Vaults, fields, one-time passwords and attachments come along.

Password generator

Random passwords, passphrases or PINs, made right in the password field.

Quick Access

Press ⌘⇧Space anywhere to search your vault and copy a password without opening the main window.

9 languages

English, 简体中文, 日本語, Español, Português, Русский, Deutsch, Français, Bahasa Indonesia

Sign in from your browser

The extension for Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc and other Chromium browsers talks to the app directly. No pairing code.

  • One-click sign-in

On a sign-in page, a small bar at the top offers the account you used last. Press Sign In, or pick another account from the list.

  • Inline menu

Click into a username or password field and choose a login. Mimatory fills it in and leaves the submit button to you.

  • Passkeys

On sites that support passkeys, Mimatory can create them and sign you in with them. They’re kept in your vault.

  • Passwords only when you pick

Until you choose an account, the page sees only names. Then Mimatory reads that one login, for that site only.

Sync on your terms

Connect Google Drive or any WebDAV server, such as Nextcloud or Jianguoyun. Sync stays off until you set it up.

  • End-to-end encrypted

Only ciphertext leaves your Mac. The sync key is protected by your master password.

  • Automatic

Changes sync a few seconds after you make them, and every 15 minutes while the vault is unlocked.

  • Merged item by item

Edits made on two devices are merged per item instead of one copy overwriting the other.

Private by design

Mimatory has no account and no server of its own. Your vault is a file on your Mac.

Local first

Everything works offline. The vault lives in ~/Library/Application Support/Mimatory.

The key is never saved

The vault key exists in memory only while the vault is unlocked. No Keychain copy, no plaintext cache.

Your files, your account

The vault file and its folder can be read by your macOS user only.

No back door

If you forget your master password, nobody can open your vault — not even us. Pick one you’ll remember.

Website icons

Icons come from Google’s favicon service and the site itself. You can turn icon downloads off in Settings.

Where it runs

macOS comes first. The other platforms are being built from the same code.

Questions

macOS says Mimatory can’t be opened.

Alpha builds aren’t signed or notarized yet. In Finder, open Applications, right-click Mimatory, choose Open and confirm. You can also allow it in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security.

How do I install the browser extension?

For now, load it in developer mode: get the browser-extension folder from the GitHub repository, open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode and choose Load unpacked. Keep the app running while you use it.

What if I forget my master password?

There’s no reset. The vault is encrypted with a key made from your master password, so without it the data can’t be read.

Can I move over from 1Password?

Yes. Export a .1pux file from 1Password, then choose File ▸ Import ▸ 1Password (.1pux)… in Mimatory.
